Charlie Mellone – Founder
Charlie has over 40 years experience in electronics systems, hardware and software development. Charlie found his passion in 2008 when he converted a 1993 Nissan 240sx to electric. Unimpressed by the performance of the 18 Lead-Acid batteries, a Lithium-based pack was absolutely necessary. With no viable battery management systems available, he designed and built version 1 of the Vintage Voltage BMS.
Why are we doing this?
While visiting long time friends in November 2023, he asked about what they were working on.
What are all those wires doing on a perfectly good Battery Monitoring Board? A customer had purchased Model 3 battery modules for his EV truck conversion. The only way these modules could be used would be to add an external BMS. Since there was no BMS’s capable of connecting to the M3 BMB, there was no choice but to wire up an external BMS. My comment was, “It would be easy to build a BMS to do this” and so our journey starts again.
